Eating organic food products have become popular for those who would like to live and practice a healthy lifestyle. The food industry is suddenly and rapidly infested by chemically-produced and processed food to cater the contemporary fast-paced lifestyle that is popular today. The subgroup of organic food accounts very little in the enormous food industry. However little, its plays an immense role in the whole industry.
When we say eating organic food, the first connotation of people is eating fruits and vegetables that are grown without fertilizers and pesticides that significantly affect the quality of the produce. Most of us thought that the people who patronize organic foods are vegetarians. Although most of these ideas are quite true, not all those who eat organic foods are vegetarians. Ordinary Meat vs. Organic Meat
Meat such as beef, chicken, pork and turkey are staple foods in some people’s diet. Meat is a popular and complete source of proteins, which is essential for building the muscles. Organic meat has been gaining popularity in the market. Organic meat are perceived as healthier and cleanly manufactured and processed. You will be surprised that livestock industry giants are raising cattle and feed them with animal by-products and manure, as these are cheap sources of protein that is needed by the animal.
The dairy farms usually employ this kind of treatment in order to provide nutrients to the animals from cheap food source. Organic meat, on the other hand, is basically from animals that are fed with natural and organic food sources such as hay, fresh grass, silage as well as grain concentrates.
Typically, the main difference between organic and non-organic meat is the process on how the animals are being raised. In 1997, the FDA put a halt on the feeding of cattle brain and spinal tissue to cattle. Some food sources for animals are still being fed such as gelatin, fats and oils, poultry by-products and pork and horse protein.
Organic meat sources are raised with utmost care and there is a ban against feeding animal by-products to organic meat food source. None of the aforementioned food sources are being fed to organic cattle and livestock.
The public is guaranteed that the meat is organic as a lot of certifying bodies constantly check the various processes involved in raising the cattle until it reached the people’s dinner plate. Strict regulations are applied on the whole process of raising and ensuring that the public get high quality organic meat products.
The main advantage of organic meat over non-organic meat is it minimizes the risk of BSE or the Bovine spongiform encephalopathy. This is often referred to as “mad cow disease”, which is a fatal neuro-degenerative disease affecting cattle. It affects the cattle’s main nervous system which includes the brain and the spinal cord. As cattle brain and spinal tissue are being fed to the cattle and livestock; then there is a greater risk of acquiring the disease.
Opting to eat organic foods like organic meat is a good start of eating healthy. Organic meat is beneficial to those people who cannot dispense meat in their diet. This is a way of incorporating healthy practices in a busy and erratic lifestyle.
